The Active Adventure 2024 took place from 12 to 14 September. For the sixth time, Touratech invited dedicated adventure riders to two days of intense off-road fun around the headquarters in Niedereschach.
With the Active Adventure, Touratech has succeeded in establishing a unique riding experience for enduro travellers. At first glance, the concept seems simple: for two days, 13 off-road locations are available for free riding around the Touratech headquarters in Niedereschach. Participants can take on the locations with their touring enduros (only vehicles over 600 cubic metres may take part) in any order they wish. The challenges range from gravel tracks to steep ascents and descents, sand and gravel passages and forest paths.
However, there is a complex organisation behind the event. Consent from property owners as well as official authorisations have to be obtained. A comprehensive safety concept has to be developed and environmental protection is also a high priority. Then, of course, there is the need for competent personnel at the stations to monitor the operation and ensure safety. This is where, in addition to numerous other co-operations, the local associations come into play, which support the Active Adventure with a great deal of passion.
The huge turnout of 400 riders for the first time this year and the extremely positive feedback from the scene justify the effort. "The Active Adventure has seen organic growth since its first edition in 2018 and has established itself as the most important non-competitive off-road event in Germany," explains Philipp Blum, Head of Marketing at Touratech and responsible for the organisation of the event. "We started with 130 participants, and this year we were able to welcome a round number of 400 enthusiastic adventure riders. But that's also the capacity limit," says Blum. "The event should remain manageable, the participants should be able to ride without any stress and, above all, safety is our top priority."
The 2024 event not only offered the riders an extremely exciting programme with 13 stations for the first time instead of the previous 12 but also posed special challenges due to the weather. Anyone who thinks that mixed weather, autumn temperatures and sometimes muddy trails would have put a damper on the off-road fun doesn't know the participants of the Active Adventure. "Despite the challenging conditions, the incredibly good atmosphere and the willingness to help among the riders showed us once again that we as Touratech appeal to the core of the adventure community," says Blum. "These enthusiasts are not easily discouraged but really come into their own in the face of tough conditions". This is also underlined by the large number of around 150 riders who made themselves comfortable on the camping meadow despite night-time temperatures of around six degrees Celsius and exchanged experiences there well into the night.
The choice of equipment and tyres proved to be an important factor given the conditions, and ultimately the event was also a huge test procedure for the equipment. “We had set up a WhatsApp group for the participants in the run-up to the event. This forum was very popular. The riders used it to discuss a wide range of topics in depth,” says Philipp Blum. “The right tyres were a particularly hot topic of discussion. We are convinced that the riders benefited enormously from these expert discussions, especially in view of the sometimes challenging ground conditions.”
Demanding Tracks and satisfied faces: this is the Touratech Active Adventure.
Positive feedback came not only from the riders, but also from the numerous brand ambassadors, influencers and press representatives who attended the event. It is therefore a matter of honour for Touratech that there will be another Active Adventure next year. “If you want to take part, you should register on the ‘Wish List’ as soon as possible to be notified as soon as registration for the 2025 event opens. In previous years, places were booked out quickly,” says Blum.
